If you want love and abundance in your life, give it away. ~ Mark Twain
I was hanging out with my parents for the weekend, and we had stopped in Westport at Pottery Barn. We walked into the store, and the first thing I was drawn to was a big warm pillow that had the word LOVE on it.
Instantly my father said, “Let me buy it for you, it’d be my pleasure.”
The woman at the front register insisted on getting me a fresh clean one from the back as the floor sample looked a bit worn and faded.
As we were waiting for them to retrieve a fresh one, she asked my father if he'd be interested in donating to their partner program No Kid Hungry®. My generous father said “Of course, tell me about it!”
She explained one in six kids in America could face hunger this year, No Kid Hungry® works to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. Every $1 donated supplies 10 meals for children in need.
My father instantly asked for $10 worth.
She was amazed, and thanked my father graciously, “That’s so generous of you!” Then she shared, “I’m almost at my goal, thank you for getting me so close to my goal today!”
My father asked what her goal was.
She said with hesitation, “Twenty-five dollars.”
My father then said, “By all means, give me $25!”
The bells went off, the women were celebrating at the registers.
“You’re the first person that’s given $25, thank you so much!”
Then I realized how truly selflessly my father gave from his heart, and I thought, “Wow. That is love.”
Love is everything. Kindness, generosity, giving from your heart, doing everything in your day with the mindset of abundance, as opposed to living in scarcity and a fear of lack.
The givers are the lucky ones in life. To give is better than to receive.
When we share from our hearts, an opening is made to touch others, to focus less on ourselves, lifting others up and enjoying the gifting of love.
