“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within” Maya Angelou
Her name was Emily. I met her many years ago in the laundry room. I was a little intimidated, she had this big presence. I guess it was from years of being a cop that she exuded a certain sense of authority.
She helped me fix the washing machine that was going crazy, and we started to connect. She was the wife of my Super, who I was so fond of.
A few weeks later I invited her and Enrique to come up for a cocktail. We listened to sexy fun Brazilian music, I had a lot to drink, they shared with me the story of how they fell in love, and there was a wonderful camaraderie between us.
Over the years, our friendship grew deeper. Emily and I had a spiritual connection. She spoke my language, she often would send me quotes of Maya Angelou, and as I was on my quest in finding love, she told me to stop, and let life bring love to me.
I loved being around her presence, as she had so much soul, spirit, and higher essence.
She came back from her trip to Peru, and she brought me the most beautiful tropical bird made of teal and orange aventurine.
The gift touched my soul. Not only did she bring it back from her travels, but it held so much more than that, it meant she was thinking of me on her trip. She wanted it to bring me luck in life and luck in love, because she believed in it, and wanted me to have it too. She had true grace, and I miss her.
I felt more spiritual when I was around her, more in tune with a higher power. I was learning from her with every encounter. From the little words she spoke, to the texts with quotes from Maya Angelou, each moment so poignant and intentional and it had such an impact on me.
Spiritual connections are so much more than we can imagine.
That evening a small delicate bird landed on the rooftop near where I was sitting, and I knew it was Emily. She’s here. She’ll never truly leave as I will always feel connected to her, and I will shine a little bit of her light through my spirit.
The spiritual connections live on…
