It’s within our imperfections that we find our perfection.
Wabi-sabi is the Japanese thought of finding beauty in every aspect of imperfection. We see this in Kintsugi- the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the breakage with gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
Our stories and the experiences we have gone through have molded us into the unique human being we are today- imperfections and all. The history of our lives explain how we got to where we are today. No matter what that path looked like, whether it was an overgrown trail in the woods walking through cobwebs, or a newly paved road, we can take pride in that course, and don’t need to disguise it.
We learn from our trials, and shine from our victories.
Reflecting on where we have been, we can move forward with an abundance of love and patience for ourselves. It’s within the imperfections that we find our perfection.
When you’re so caught up in that moment of despair, you can’t always see how it’s moving you forward. But looking back, you can see that you’ve made it to this point and have overcome every obstacle, fear, and trial you’ve faced so far. From there you can look into your bright future and truly go for the gold, embracing every step you've taken in the past to bring you to this moment.
It is in the tenderness of embracing our imperfections and flaws, that we truly become more authentically perfect within ourselves.
